Circles of Universal Language

CIRCLE AS A SYMBOL OF CONNECTION

Ever since our existence, people have gathered in circles for rituals, spirituality, games, singing, dancing, and other communal activities. The circle, mother of all forms, reflects not only the spaces we share but the cyclical nature of human development — both individually and as a community. It represents a space where everyone is welcome and plays an equal part.

THE FUTURE OF CONNECTION IN A GROWING CITY

The exhibition ‘Circles of Universal Language’ explores how universal language —such as play, sound, art, dance and nature — can foster connection and interaction with the circle as a starting point. For this project, the municipality of Eindhoven, Edhv and Dutch Invertuals joined forces and invited ten designers to examine the power of these universal languages and use them as a guiding force in their design proposals for objects in public spaces that aim to bring residents of Eindhoven together.

DESIGN VISIONS FOR EINDHOVEN’S FUTURE

The exhibition showcases scale models of the designers’ work, presenting visions for the future of public spaces in Eindhoven.

A diverse group of designers, all in a way connected to Eindhoven, has contributed to the exhibition. Through bi-weekly meetings, with engaging dialogues, sketching, and sharing feedback, the visions and ideas evolved into tangible prototypes.

Guided by Dutch Invertuals and Edhv, the sessions led to 10 principles for creating meaningful relationships between people in a growing city. These findings explore vital topics that connect us to the essence of our humanity, fostering meaningful connections with ourselves and the world around us in an evolving cityscape. They reflect our inherent wiring and provide pathways to connect with others and embrace the increasingly diverse landscape of Eindhoven.

Visitors were invited to interact and cast their vote, contributing to how the residents of Eindhoven might connect in the future.  Also Her Majesty Queen Máxima visited the exhibition as part of her tour at Dutch Design Week 2024.
